With results in from Sunday's elections in Germany, 5 German citizens of Turkish background have managed to enter the German parliament. From the Green Party, Ekin Deligoz, from Schroeder's SPD Party, Lale Akgun, and from the leftist party PDS, Hakki Keskin, Huseyin Aydin, and Sevim Dagdelen. SPD candidate Dr. Lale Akgun, from Cologne, received 75,703 votes from her district, and said this: "I am so happy today. The CDU candidate running against me was so strong and so sure of winning. Voters cast their votes in our favor though. I want to especially thank the Turkish voters in the area who made a difference in my being elected." Â Entering the Parliament from the Berlin area, Dr.Hakki Keskin said "The fact that the left leaning PDS was not represented in the Parliament was a big loss. Now there will be a strong leftist opposition group represented in the Parliament." Â
