35 people were taken into custody during the incidents that occurred during demolition of an open-air market place in Turkish capital of Ankara last night, security officers and witnesses said. According to security officers and witnesses, Ankara's Cankaya Municipality decided to demolish the open-air market place in Maltepe neighborhood, and build a parking lot and a bazaar in its stead.

Workers of the Cankaya Municipality, who came to the area with bulldozers to demolish the open-air market place, were blocked by the tradesmen. Meanwhile, a group of tradesmen attacked the vehicles and set ablaze some of the hut and materials that belonged to Cankaya Municipality.  Â

The fire was contained by the fire-fighters, while 35 people were detained at the end of the five-hour incidents.Two tradesmen were injured and hospitalized, the witnesses claimed.

After police took necessary measures, workers continued to demolish the market place.
