19th victim battling in hospital

Just one day after his sister died, five-year-old Muhammed Ozcan, was battling to stay alive in the university hospital of the eastern city of Van. Doctors said that Muhammed remains in a serious condition, "His conditions has not changed," chief physician Huseyin Avni Sahin told AFP. The young boy, not in need of a respiratory machine yet, has been described by doctors at the hospital as the most worrisome case amongst the H5N1 victims so far.
The boy's sister died on Sunday in teh same hospital, although tests were confimed negative for the virus. It is believed that Fatma died of pneumonia. If confirmed, she would become the fourth victim of bird flu in Turkey following the deaths in the same hospital of three siblings, aged between 11 and 15, earlier this month. However, sometimes several tests are required to establish whether a patient has contracted the virus.
