Turkey to recognize Kosovo after 48 hours, reports

Turkey is likely to adopt a “wait and see” policy to Kosovo’s independence declaration and expected to recognize the newest state of the world after 48 hours, Vatan daily reported on Sunday.
Turkey has a cautious approach towards the independence of Kosovo because there are some worries in Ankara that the situation could set an example for Northern Cyprus and Northern Iraq, Vatan daily said.
The newspaper also reported that the Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan has cut short his visit to the Gulf states over the weekend and returned to Ankara to watch the developments from his headquarters.
The Kosovar parliament is expected to declare independence from Serbia in a special session on Sunday. The major Western powers back the Albanian majority's demand for its own state, nine years after NATO bombed to drive out Serb forces. Serbia and Russia are strongly opposed.
Greece, Greek Cypriots, Spain, Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria have already announced they will not recognize the independent Kosovo.
