Speaking at Adana Kemal Serhatlı Police Vocational High School, Atalay said that graduation ceremonies were being held in 24 provinces and that 6,400 people have joined the police profession.
Compared to countries in Europe, Atalay said Turkey is very safe in terms of its crime statistics. "Turkey is a country where tourists from abroad may take the safest of vacations," the minister said. "Nobody should have any worries about that."
Atalay said that crime rates are lower this year compared to previous years. Atalay also pointed to the importance of Mobile Electronic System Integration, or MOBESE, in providing urban security. "We are strengthening security units by their technical capacity and we are employing the newest technology," he said. "When I came to office in 2007, MOBESE was only in used in Istanbul. Now it is operational in almost 60 of our provinces."
The minister said special attention is being paid in police training to the subjects of human rights, law, helpfulness and devotion. He also mentioning the zero-tolerance policy for torture, telling the graduates: "We expect you to practice the ’zero mistakes’ principle while doing your jobs. No reason is just for ill treatment of our people. You will be police officers who will not tolerate unlawfulness."
