Turkish mayor injured in armed attack

The mayor of Geyve district in the northwestern province of Sakarya was injured in an armed attack, Dogan News Agency reported. (UPDATED)

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) member, Mayor Idris Cakir, was shot three times in both legs in his office and is currently undergoing surgery, the agency said.
The gunman, identified as Eser Kambur, reportedly carried out that attack after the municipality refused to issue him a license to operate a convenience stand.
Police have begun a search for Kambur who fled the scene after the attack.
