Turkey, Iran sign memorandum on transportation

Turkish and Iranian transportation ministers signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on transportation in Tehran on Sunday, the Anatolian Agency reported. Turkish minister also met Iranian president during his visit.

The MOU, agreed by Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim and his Iranian counterpart Hamed Behbahani, covers air, land and sea transportation between Turkey and Iran, the state-run agency reported.

Transportation officials of the two countries will deal with the conveyance part of the goal to reach a trade volume of $20 billion between Turkey and Iran, Yildirim was quoted by agency as saying after the signing ceremony.

Behbahani said Turkey and Iran were key countries between Asia and Europe, adding that governments should improve cooperation on transportation.

Yildirim met separately met Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran on Sunday.

Yildirim and Ahmadinejad discussed regional and international issues and talked about the role of Turkey and Iran in establishing peace and stability in the Middle East, diplomats told the Anatolian Agency.

The two also discussed how to achieve the goal to increase annual trade volume between the countries and to improve cooperation on transportation and communication.
