A notebook including bribery list found in the house of H.P., a Turkish constructor, under the Sarampol investigation which is launched because of the corruption allegations in rail road tenders in Turkey.

--LIGHT OF REPUBLIC WASHED OUR SOULS
The 85th foundation anniversary of Republic of Turkey was celebrated with joyful ceremonies all across the country. Especially the light and firework show over the Bosphorus last night displayed the great joy surrounding Turkey.

--TURKISH DOCTOR DISCOVERS NEW MINERAL
Elif Gunceli, who is working as a chemical engineer at Delft Technical University in the Netherlands, discovered a new mineral called "Meridianite" while she was carrying out her doctorate study in the Antarctic. Gunceli's name was included in international literature with her discovery.

--EU PRAISED GUL FOR REFORMS
EU Commission's draft Progress Report on Turkey, expresses discontent about Justice and Development Party's policies in many fields. The tone of criticism gets more evident in the draft where President Abdullah Gul's approach is praised. Gul, who was praised for the role he played in the creation of an atmosphere of dialogue, accord, and plurality, with the steps he took in foreign policy, was referred in the report as "the reformer figure Brussels wants to see".

--INCE MEMED PLEASED
Presidency Culture and Art Great Award was given to novelist Yasar Kemal in literature category. President Abdullah Gul gave architecture award to Turgut Cansever, and music award to Dr. Alaeddin Yavasca. World known novelist Yasar Kemal (writer of Ince Memed-Memed, My Hawk) said that he would like to consider this award as a sign of a path opening towards social peace.

--REPUBLIC EXCITEMENT
Republic Day was celebrated with a great excitement yesterday. A ceremony was held in Ankara with participation of the highest level officials of the state. Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Raza Gilani also attended the ceremony. Constitutional Court President Hasim Kilic was on the front line of the protocol.

--RICH ENGLISH ORDER TEST-TUBE BABY
It has been revealed that a test-tube baby clinic in Istanbul opened a branch office in the British capital of London and helped wealthy British citizens have babies of the sex they desired. BBC reporters, who went to the London office of Jinemed Centre clinic like "a couple willing to have a baby girl", recorded their consultation with the doctor on a hidden camera. The doctor assured that the couple would have a baby girl after a procedure to be carried out in Istanbul.

--100,000 PEOPLE WATCH "MUSTAFA" ON ITS FIRST DAY
"Mustafa", Can Dundar's movie on Ataturk, started to be displayed in a total of 193 cinemas. All tickets were sold out at cinemas in big cities on the movie's first day. Many viewers left the theaters crying after watching the movie.

--85TH ANNIVERSARY PRIDE
Citizens filled Ataturk's mausoleum after the official ceremony during Republic of Turkey's foundation celebrations. Hundreds of thousands of people decorated Ataturk's mausoleum with red and white carnations. Participation to official celebrations nation wide was greater compared to past years. The 85th anniversary joy peaked at night during torchlight processions, fireworks shows and concerts.

Chairman of Radio and Television Supreme Council, Zahid Akman's path intersects with all known names of the green (Islamic) capital. Akman is among the founders of Nehir Media Company, along with convicted executive of YIMPAS, Dursun Uyar and Interior Minister Besir Atalay.

--MOST ENTHUSIASTIC CELEBRATION
The 85th anniversary of Republic was celebrated with excitement yesterday. Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) members did not participate in any of the celebrations except the one in Anitkabir (Ataturk's Mausoleum). CHP chairman Deniz Baykal did not attend the ceremony in Hipodrom and the celebration at Parliament. Citizens attended celebrations in many places across the country especially in Anitkabir.

--OLIVE BRANCH TO YASAR KEMAL
Presidency Culture and Art Great Award was given to important novelist Yasar Kemal in literature category. Yasar Kemal, who earlier said that he would not forgive the state, said regarding the award that it was a hope for social peace.

--TOP MODEL GUEST TO GAZIANTEP
French President Nicholas Sarkozy's top model wife Carla Bruni will come to Turkey for the inauguration of the war museum in Gaziantep. Bruni will inaugurate the museum where Gaziantep's fight for liberation during the 1st World War will be depicted. The museum has a section where memoirs of French soldiers who fought in Gaziantep will be displayed. Bruni is expected to visit Gaziantep in January.

The 85th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey was celebrated nation wide with great enthusiasm. President Abdullah Gul and other top state officials visited Ataturk's mausoleum. Flag sales peaked while thousands of citizens attended the torchlight processions.
