Baghdad will have control of Iraqi air space as of Jan. 1, 2009 in line with the security agreement signed between Iraq and the United States. It will be a serious obstacle before cross-border air operations of Turkish warplanes on the PKK terrorist organization. As a result of an understanding between Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President George W. Bush on Nov. 5, 2007, the United States --which has control of Iraqi air space-- allowed Turkey to stage air strikes on the PKK in the north of Iraq.
-- THEY WILL INFORM ANKARA
Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki will send a representative to Ankara tomorrow. The representative will inform Ankara about the security agreement between Iraq and the U.S., and also learn about the demands of Turkey.

European Round Table of Industrialists (ERT), a group of 47 leading European industrialists that employ nearly five-million people and whose revenues reach 1.6 trillion euros, gathered at a meeting in Istanbul. Guler Sabanci and Bulent Eczacibasi were the Turkish participants of the meeting. During the gathering, the members of ERT agreed that weak industries and companies should not be supported, the demand should be raised and credit requirements should be improved.

Turkey will see rainy and snowy weather starting from today. Meteorologists expect rain and snow in the eastern Black Sea and eastern Anatolia regions on Thursday.

Policies which were developed without any forecasting affected employees the most. Employers first preferred firing their workers and the number of unemployed people in Turkey reached five million. Nearly 91 percent of consumers believe that Turkey is involved in the global recession period.
-- PREPARATION FOR "AMNESTY" PRIOR TO ELECTIONS
The Ministries of Finance and Environment agreed to implement a constitutional amendment on the 2-B lands that are no longer qualified as forests. Accordingly, the Housing Development Administration of Turkey and municipalities will carry out urban transformation projects on the 2-B lands in city centers. The 2-B lands, on which industrial facilities were established, would be sold to the owners of such facilities.

-- 125,000 YTL FINE TO DOCTOR WHO GIVE INSUFFICIENT INFORMATION TO PATIENTS
The Supreme Court of Appeals made a historical decision regarding "the liability of informing the patient". The court ruled a doctor to pay 125,000 YTL in indemnity to the patient who had aphonia after a surgery. The doctor was accused of not informing the patient sufficiently about the possible risks.
-- 207,000 MORE JOBLESS PEOPLE
The number of jobless people increased by 207,000 and reached 2,439,000 in August 2008, when compared to the same period of 2007. People who could not find job in construction and transportation sectors returned to their villages.

-- KURDISH TV ON AIR IN NEW YEAR
State-run Turkish Radio & Television (TRT), which has been pursuing its preparations for a long time, will start broadcasting in Kurdish as of the Jan. 1. Channel TRT-8 will be watched in the Middle East and Europe (besides Turkey). The channel will use Hotbird satellite which is also used by Roj TV.
-- INTERLOCUTOR IS TALABANI IN CROSS-BORDER OPERATION
Control of Iraqi air space will be handed over to Baghdad (by the U.S.) as of Jan. 1, 2009 in line with the security agreement between the United States and Iraq. Thus, the understanding which was reached between Turkey and the U.S. regarding (Turkey's) cross-border air operations will become invalid. Turkey will not intervene in the north of Iraq without the permission of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.
