Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said at a conference at the Columbia University in New York from which President-elect Barack Obama graduated that they expected the new U.S. government to take into consideration Turkey's sensitivities on some vital issues. -- TURKEY ATTENDS MOST CRITICAL SUMMIT
Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan will represent Turkey at a summit where the world's twenty most developed countries will seek a solution for the growing global economic crisis. Twenty countries with the biggest economies, responsible for 85 percent of global production, will gather in Washington D.C. tomorrow to seek a way out of the crisis. Turkey is the 16th biggest economy among the G-20 countries. The G-20 includes the world's leading countries such as the U.S., Japan, Germany, China, Britain, France, Russia, Italy and Canada.
-- TMSF HEAD CALLS ON BUSINESS LEADERS TO BE BRAVE
Ahmet Erturk, the head of Turkey's Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF), addressed the Turkish real sector. "We need to be open and clear. We do not need to use a political language. We should be demanding. We should be clear so that the decision makers can feel the urgency," Erturk said.

A memorial service took place at parliament to show the last respects to Mustafa Sekip Birgol, who was the sole surviving veteran of the Turkey's War of Independence. President Abdullah Gul, General Staff Chief Gen. Ilker Basbug and parliamentarians were in attendance at the service. Birgol's daughter expressed her gratitude with parliament's decision to hold such a service. "We are sorrowful but also proud at the same time," she said.

The international animal right group, PETA, staged a demonstration in front of the European Parliament in Brussels, to protest killing of stray dogs in Turkey. Demonstrators carried photographs of slain animals and chanted slogans "respect, don't neglect".

The United States Council for International Business (USCIB) presented the "2008 International Leadership Award" to Muhtar Kent, CEO of the Coca Cola Company. Kent said that he desired a greater number of Turkish executives to assume more responsibilities and achieve remarkable success around the world.
