Turkish FM, EU official due in Cyprus amid reunification talks

Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan and EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn will both visit the divided island of Cyprus separately in the coming days.

Babacan will meet with Turkish Cypriot officials to discuss the recent developments regarding the Cyprus issue during his one-day visit to the northern side of the island on Thursday, the Anatolian Agency reported.

Rehn will be also in Cyprus next week to meet Cypriot leaders who are set to hold the eighteenth round of reunification talks on Wednesday.

Rehn will visit the island on Feb. 13, Turkish Cypriot Presidency spokesman Hasan Ercakica told Anatolian Agency on Tuesday.

Ercakica said British Minister of State for Europe Caroline Flint would also hold two-days of talks on the island from Feb. 9.

Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat and his Greek Cypriot counterpart Demetris Christofias will meet on Wednesday for the eighteenth round of the Cyprus talks that were launched in September 2008 to reunify the island. Cypriot leaders will continue to discuss the "property issue" in the meeting.
