Greek Cypriots spent 5.5 million euros ($6.9 billion) in the north between January and September, and also spent 1.8 million euros ($2.2 billion) in Turkey in the first nine months of the year, the report said citing statistics.

The total figure of 7.3 million euros is just less than half the amount of money spent by Turkish Cypriots and other Turkish credit card holders.

According to report, Turkish Cypriots spending came out at around 53,000 per day, compared to 27,000 per day on average spent by Greek Cypriots in the north and in Turkey.

The bulk of the money spent by Greek Cypriots in Turkey goes to hotels, retailers and airlines, signifying a substantial flow of tourism from the south of the island to Turkey, the report added.
