At least eight planes carried out the operation against the PKK separatists from about 1630 GMT, the sources told Reuters, adding the bombing had been intense. AA said the air operation carried in the Amedi and Khakurk regions of the northern Iraq. Turkish military has said on Thursday it bombed PKK positions in the northern Iraq as a group of terrorists tried to infiltrate to Turkey's territory.
A pro-PKK news agency, known as mouthpiece of PKK, confirmed the bombing, citing local sources without naming them. It did not say whether there were any casualties.
Clashes also continued inside Turkey on Friday and the General Staff said two soldiers had been killed in the mountainous province of Sirnak, which borders Iraq. News reports said one was a major and the other a soldier. DHA said one more soldier was also killed in the operations, taking the total death toll to three.
In February, Turkey sent thousands of troops into Iraq for an eight-day ground incursion, the first, major ground operation Turkey has staged inside Iraq since the U.S.-led coalition toppled Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003. The U.S., which lists the PKK as a terrorist group, has been sharing intelligence about the rebels with Turkey.
