Turkish top judge says examination on AKP case likely to be on Monday

Hasim Kilic, chief judge of the Turkish Constitutional Court, said on Thursday they would most probably make the preliminary examination of the indictment about closure case against the ruling AKP on March 31st. Kilic told reporters that the rapporteur would complete his report on Friday at latest.

He added that if the rapporteur completed the report, the court would start the case on Monday.

Kilic said the court could hold the preliminary meeting on Monday in case the rapporteur who makes the initial analysis on the indictment of the closure case against AKP could prepare its preliminary report on Friday.

''If the rapporteur completes its report on Friday, we can work on the report on Saturday and Sunday. Then it becomes possible for us to start discuss the case on Monday.''

The Court will decide on accepting the application or not. If the Court decides on discussing the merits of the case, then, AKP will have one month to submit its preliminary defense.Â

Kilic also said nobody will benefit from the recent rise in the tension saying every party should review its responsibilities. "I wish people could solve problems without fighting," he added.

The Constitutional Court's priority has became the closure case against AKP, so that the decision on the headscarf ban is suspended in a way, he said.
