Council of Europe to support Turkish film

STRASBOURG - A European fund will support the production of the final part of the "Yusuf Trilogy," a film by Turkish director Semih Kaplanoğlu.
The Council of Europe will provide financial support for the Turkish film. Eurimages, the COE fund for the co-production, distribution and exhibition of European cinematographic works, decided to extend 4.8 million euros of financial assistance to 14 European co-production films, including a Turkish-German film, a statement from the fund said. The film will be titled "Bal" (Honey) and directed by Semih Kaplanoğlu. Eurimages was established in 1988 to promote the European film industry by encouraging the production and distribution of films and fostering cooperation between professionals. The fund has 33 members, including Turkey.
It has extended financial assistance totaling about 375 million euros for 1,266 European co-productions so far.
Last part of trilogy
The third film of the "Yusuf Trilogy," "Honey" is the last stage in the journey to the origin of a soul. The trilogy is shown in reverse chronological order. Yusuf, the main character, reached maturity in the first part of the trilogy, "Yumurta" (Egg), while in "Süt" (Milk) he was on the verge of leaving home and becoming an adult.
"Honey" takes us to the childhood of the poet. It is the inner story of a boy who searches for his lost father at a point when he is trying to make sense of life, while living in the remotest and wildest area of theeastern Black Sea region. The first Kaptanoğlu directed, "Herkes Kendi Evinde" (Away From Home), won multiple awards at international film festivals. Kaplanoğlu's second feature film, "Melegin Dususu" (Angel's Fall,) premiered at the 2006 Berlin International Film Festival and found widespread interest from international film critics and audiences. His other film "Yumurta" (Egg) also won international awards for best film, best director and best screenplay.
