Rhythm masters to meet in city

ISTANBUL - Rhythm artists from all around the world will come together for the 70th birthday celebrations of famous Turkish artist Cemal Reşit Rey in the "Rhythm Day" concert to be held at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall.
The concert will be performed Feb. 1, and bring together artists from India, Burkina Faso, Bulgaria, Senegal, France, Italy, Cuba and Turkey, and 80 students from the Okay Temiz Rhythm Studio. Students will perform a special show with a Berimbou, a single-string percussion instrument Ñ a musical bow, from Brazil, and an African Quicca, which was used in Africa to hunt lions and tigers and was used by Okay Temiz, Turkey's one of the most popular jazz musicians, in the 1970s in the production of electronic music.
Temiz will also perform for audience members with his own electronic music instrument, called a Magic Pyramid.
Cemal Reşit Rey
Cemal Reşit Rey was a famous Turkish composer, pianist, script writer and conductor. He was born in 1904 in Jerusalem and died in 1985 in Istanbul. He was one of the five pioneers of classical music in Turkey in the first half of the 20th century. Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall in Istanbul is named after him.
Temiz will also perform for audience members with his own electronic music instrument, called a Magic Pyramid.
