Turk chemistry exports rise to $7.3 bln in first half

Exports of Turkish chemistry sector rose 51.6 percent to $7.3 billion in the first half of 2008, compared to $4.8 billion realized in the same period in 2007 and ranked as third highest exporting sector, Anatolian Agency reported on Friday.

"The chemistry sector became the third sector making the highest amount of exports," the AA quoted Murat Akyuz, chairman of the Istanbul Chemical Substances Exporters' Association (IKMIB).

 

"In the first half of the last year, our exports were about $4.8 billion. Exports rose 51.6 percent to 7.3 billion in the same period this year. Accordingly, the chemistry sector's share in Turkey's exports became 10.8 percent," he also said.

 

Akyuz added that they revised their year-end target and increased it from $12 billion to $14 billion.
