ISTANBUL - The TÜYAP Fair and Congress Center in Istanbul’s Büyükçekmece district is preparing to host the International Textile Machinery 2009 exhibition June 6-10.
Some 1,500 companies from 37 countries are expected to participate in this year’s event. The event is held every three years; ITM 2006 hosted 1,200 companies from 35 countries and more than 70,000 visitors.
More than 100 Italian companies will participate in the event. "The high interest level is proof of the strong ties between Italian textile machinery producers and their Turkish counterparts," said Roberto Luongo, director of the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade, or ICE. Turkey is the second market that the Italian textile machinery industry has opened up to, he said, adding that Turkey mostly purchases weaving and knitting machinery from Italian companies. ITM, which is considered to be one of the biggest textile fairs in Europe, makes Turkey and Istanbul the center of the textile sector, said Necip Güney, director of sales and marketing of Teknik Ltd, the organizer of the fair.
"We think that the number of exhibitors and visitors will be higher at the ITM 2009 exhibition," he said. "The ITM exhibitions is expected to receive 80,000 visitors this year."
Organizers told the Knitting Industry Web site that ITM 2009 was of great importance for the industry to help it understand the global changes taking place, especially this year because of the economic recession.
