The ongoing talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a loan agreement are moving forward well, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday, however he reiterated they would not sign a deal if it was not inline with country's interests. (UPDATED)

“We will not undersign anything that is not inline with Turkey’s interests,” Erdogan said at a campaign meeting in Turkey’s central province of Nevsehir.

The talks between the IMF and the Turkish government had been suspended in late January, which Erdogan says came after the Fund made two unacceptable demands, the details of which he did not elaborate.

The Turkish government has been criticized over its reluctance to seal an IMF deal, after the latest $10 billion accord expired in May, ahead of the upcoming local elections due to the spending curbs imposed by the Fund.
