Former Turk PM set to form Japanese model type political party

Independent Rize deputy and former Turkish PM Mesut Yilmaz is set to establish a new political party based the consensus of people representing different political tendencies, also known as the Japanese model, the Anatolian Agency reported on Sunday.

The party is to be based on the example of the Japanese model and an announcement will be made in September, Yilmaz said

The independent deputy said that works are underway for the establishment of a new party that will bring together representatives from nationalist, left and right-wing political philosophies.

“The party will include separate groups, it will include representatives of these groups, and these leaders will take a chair at the central administration of the party and constitute a consensus basis of the new party,” former PM Yilmaz said.

“On this subject we closely examined the Japanese model and in Turkey we are meeting with people who can implement this. We had formed certain agreements and I expect we will reach the point where we can share the details with the nation in September," Yilmaz added. "We are now at the stages of preparation are keeping the specifics secret and it would not be right to share these details with press at this point."

Yilmaz was one of the founding members of the Motherland Party (ANAVATAN) with Turgut Ozal and served as tourism minister in Ozal's cabinet.  He later served as prime minister of Turkey on three separate occasions. Yılmaz retired from politics to pursue a teaching career, but after almost 4 years, he announced his return to politics in August 2006.
