Promoting Turkey in the EU is ‘crucial’

ANKARA – The EU accession chapter on taxation could be opened to negotiations during the Czech Republic’s presidency of the European Union, Turkish government spokesman Cemil Çiçek said, adding that the year 2009 is important for Turkey’s membership process.

“There are, from time to time, objections coming from certain EU countries to Turkey’s EU membership,” he said. “France leads such countries. As such, the promotion of Turkey in the EU is crucial.”
