ANKARA - After a busy political season, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his family headed to the southeastern province of Hatay for vacation yesterday.
Erdoğan usually vacations in the Mediterranean coastal town of Antalya, but this time he chose Hatay, the only province along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts where the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, won the mayoral seat.
Having engaged in a series of election rallies in the last two months and hosting U.S. President Barack Obama, Erdoğan announced his intention to take a holiday.
"I, too, am a human being and I have a family," he said.Erdoğan is expected to work on possible Cabinet changes, which is anticipated to affect five or six ministers, during the holiday.
Five-star hotel
Erdoğan, his wife and daughter will stay at the five-star Ottoman Hotel, 20 meters from Hatay city center. The Ottoman Hotel has a thermal spa known to have healing properties and therapeutic effects. Erdoğan and his family are expected at the hotel by the weekend.
Hatay is also a popular holiday destination for tourists from the Middle East, particularly from Gulf countries and Israel while also being a year-round destination spot.
