TUNCELİ - In depots belonging to the Tunceli Governor’s Office, police found flags, pamphlets and posters belonging to the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, reports said yesterday.
The matter came to a head when pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party, or DTP, members of the municipal assembly made the allegation yesterday morning at an assembly meeting and were supported by the opposition Republican People’s Party, or CHP.
The assembly sent a delegation to the depot in question, which was located in the underground of the service building next to the Governor’s Office, and found AKP posters and pamphlets used when Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited the region Oct. 24 last year.
Municipal assembly members from the DTP took photos of the contents of the depot and filed a complaint at the local prosecutor’s office.
The police were sent to the depot with a search warrant, which was conducted under the supervision of the prosecutor.
The governor, Mustafa Yaman, has come under serious pressure from the opposition and the Supreme Election Board, or YSK, in recent months for his failure to stop state aid distribution, seen as an effort by theÊYaman and described him as an exemplary public servant.
The YSK yesterday said it would meet today to assess the developments in Tunceli.
Governors are appointed state servants mainly in charge of security while elected mayors are responsible for municipal services. Turkish law bans state servants from taking part in any political activities or officially belonging to any political party.
