Last week a group of 16 to 17 people entered the printing press of a local newspaper in the city of Bursa with axes and sticks and beat the newspaper’s owner, the editor-in-chief and one of its columnists.

In Ankara, Burhan Yazar, general coordinator for Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek, attacked a Kanal D cameraman and reporter who were carrying out their duties. He broke their camera and microphones. The IPI branch has characterized these actions as seriously injuring press freedom and called on all those in authority, and politicians, led by the Justice and Development Party, or AKP, to be sensitive to press freedom.
