NICOSIA - The U.N. Mine Action Center’s Manager Michael Raine said Wednesday there was only enough money left to continue with mine removals inside the 180 kilometer buffer zone that separates Greek and Turkish Cypriots until the end of January.
Thousands of land mines were strewn inside the U.N.-controlled buffer zone by both sides in the immediate aftermath of the 1974 intervention when the cease-fire line solidified.
