Smuggled artifacts head back to Turkey

DİDİM - Turkish artifacts smuggled into Germany in 2002 and retrieved in Bremen have been sent back to Turkey. Artifacts taken to Hannover, Bremen in Germany six years ago were sent back to Turkey with the help of Turkey’s Consulate General in Hannover.
According to a written statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Promotion and Culture Affairs Administration, under the control of the Ministry, has exerted great effort to return the smuggled artifacts to Turkey.
"Through this effort, some artifacts smuggled from Didim were intercepted in the German city of Bremen and brought back to the country," said the statement. "Works on bringing historic artifacts, which are a major part of Turkey’s cultural heritage, to the country will continue, in collaborations with local and international authorities."
Among the returned artifacts were oil lamps, ancient goblets, a bronze statue of a women and some ancient jewelry. The artifacts are reported to return to Didim.
