The head of Turkey's Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ali Bardakoglu, has added his voice to debates raging over whether or not the ban against turbans, or headscarves, in Turkish universities should be lifted. Bardakoglu commented yesterday on secularity, noting:
Secularity is not an anti-religious belief or ideology; to the contrary, it is a principle which guarantees religious freedom, and gives shelter to a range of different beliefs, allowing them to live side by side in tolerance. Secularity is a method and an accord......Religion does not belong just to certain factions of society or certain organizations; it is our shared link with eachother....."
