Joost Lagendijk, Co-chairman of the Turkey-EU Parliament Commission, met yesterday with a delegation from the Turkish Parliament's (TBMM) Social Assistance and Support for Families of Fallen Soldiers and Terror Victims Foundation.

Lagendijk spoke with Hamit Kose, the president of the foundation, about the EU's stance towards terror in Turkey, and about the perception of the PKK terror group in Europe in general. Said Lagendijk yesterday: "There is sometimes some confusion which could lead to the impression that the EU is soft on this terror. But we strongly condemn the terrorism committed by the PKK." Lagendijk also acknowledged that the EU's stance towards the PKK had changed notably in the last decade, saying "10 years ago, we had much less information, and we had ridiculous responses to it. But in recent years, with the events in London and Madrid, our perceptions of what terror really is have changed." Lagendijk took time to comment during his meeting on what he said was the importance of Turkey "moving into action" on lifting the controversial article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code.
