Bekir Coskun: The AKP's "helal" Constitution......

Since they have obtained a majority in the Parliament, a firm grip on the administration, and even the presidency, it was only the Constitution that was missing.
 
And now they are taking care of that too.
 
It will be a Constitution which will not hinder or block the "moderate Islam" they have in mind.
 
To this end, Mir Dengir Mehmet Firat (a top ranked AKP official) said yesterday in a statement to the press, "We will be putting our political volition behind the Constitution."

And of course, you can guess what that "political volition" is that they will be putting behind the Constitution.
 
But a Constitution cannot speak.
 
It cannot complain out loud "Who is it that is putting their political volition behind me?"

In this new Constitution, either secretly or openly:
 
-The majority of the Constitutional Court passes under the control of the administration, so that the basic principles of the Constitution-Ataturk's revolutionary laws-no longer stand as barriers.
 
-A new definition of secularity (according to their minds) is being constructed.
 
-The turban is being left free.

-The functions and effectiveness of the National Security Council (MGK) are lessened.
 
-The independence of the justice system is trimmed down.
 
-The Board of Higher Education (YOK) is tied to the administration.

-The door is opened to those members of the military who had been kicked out due to ties with reactionaryism-backwardness-religious sects.

And we all know that what they are really doing is putting together their own "helal" Constitution to bring them one step closer to their goals.
 
But who will try to stop them?
 
This broken down opposition of ours?
 

Our writers, our intellectuals?
 
Or the protectors of secularity who take every chance they can to raise outcrys about the threats towards the secular system, but who, the moment Abdullah Gul was elected president, hailed him?
 
Or the media?
 
Or perhaps the big bosses who can't wait to tour the world with the new President?
 
Or maybe the depairing, angry people of this nation, who feel alone and betrayed, and who are not willing to see their country dragged into darkness?

Yes, I ask, who exactly is it that is planning on preventing the AKP from creating their own Constitution?
 
Who....?
