The turban, or headscarf, worn by Hayrunnissa Gul are the subject of constant media attention and commentary in the days leading up to the final rounds of voting in the Turkish Parliament (TBMM), and in latest comments on the headscarf she wears, Hayrunnissa Gul has said:

"First and foremost, this is my own particular choice. This needs to be viewed as something like the special confidential relationship between a doctor and a patient."
