Hundreds of birds culled in Batman

Tight measures have been implemented in Boğazköy, a village in the province of Batman, after 170 birds died there within three days and four children were infected with what health officials believe could be the avian flu virus. At least 924 birds were slaughtered with gas.

Mağaralı village was also added to the list of quarantined areas after Boğazköy, Rüzgarlı and Aydınlı were blocked off on Thursday. Blood samples from the infected children have been sent to Ankara for testing. Meanwhile, teams of gendarmes are checking and disinfecting all minibuses carrying passengers.
