Lawyer/Al Qaeda leader arrested in Ankara

Turkish police have arrested a 25 year-old Izmir lawyer, M.T., who claimed that he is the “Turkish Commander of the Al Qaeda organisation”. Police arrested 9 other suspects during simultaneous operations carried out in Izmir, Ankara and Istanbul.

Placing M.T. under surveillance, the police was able to establish that two people he was in contact with, one working for a security company and the other an electrical technician, were members of IBDA-C, or Great Islamic Eastern Warriors Front, an organisation that claimed responsibility for bombing two synagogues and the British Consulate in November 2003, killing more than 60 people.
