August 30th Victory and Turkish Armed Forces Day has been celebrated throughout Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The first ceremony took place at the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of the modern and secular Republic of Turkey.

General Staff Chief Gen. Yasar Buyukanit, Land Forces Commander Gen. Ilker Basbug, Naval Forces Commander Admiral Yener Karahanoglu, Air Forces Commander Gen. Faruk Comert, Gendarmerie Forces Commander Gen. Isik Kosaner and the other military officials were in attendance at the ceremony.

They laid a wreath of red and white carnations to the tomb of Ataturk, and observed a minute of silence out of respect to him and his brothers in arm.

Later, Gen. Buyukanit signed the special book of the mausoleum saying, "the Turkish Armed Forces is determined to protect the indivisible unity and national interests of the Republic of Turkey in line with Ataturk's principles and reforms."
