Israeli conductor Daniel Barenboim's East-West Divan Orchestra comprising Israeli and Arab musicians, has given the messages of peace in its performance in Istanbul's Hagia Eirene on Wednesday night.The concert, a program of works by Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms,received a standing ovation from the audience.
The East-West Divan Orchestra is composed of 110 young musicians aged between 14 and 25 from 17 countries. It was founded by Edward Said, the Palestinian-American scholar, and Barenboim, who is considered one of the best interpreters of works by Beethoven and Mozart, in 1999.Â
