Aegean islet of Kardak site of more Turkish-Greek tension

The incident occured yesterday morning, when the Greek boats, which had left from the island of Kilimli (known as Kalymnos in Greek), arrived at the rocky shores of the Kardak islets off the Turkish town of Turgutreis. The Kardak islets are a set of rocky, uninhabited islets which have been the focus of much international contention between Turkey and Greece in recent years. The Turkish coast guard boat, on arriving at Kardak, warned the Greek fishing boats and coast guard to move away from Kardak, after which an approximate half hour of hostile maneuvering took place between the Turkish and Greek coast guard boats. Following on this, a Greek war ship and two more coast guards arrived at Kardak. The coast guard boats from both countries then pulled back into territorial waters after a short while.
 
Yesterday afternoon in Greece however, the incident appeared on national media, with news headlines announcing "More Turkish provocation at Kardak." According to Greek state television NET, a Greek fishing boat had gone to Kardak to gather its nets, and had been warned away from doing so by a Turkish coast guard.
