“There is no problem regarding financial assistance to be extended by the EU (to Turkey),” said Oguz Demiralp, Turkey's Secretary General for the EU. In an exclusive interview with A.A correspondent, Demiralp indicated that problems regarding the financial aid have been solved, and stressed that the financial assistance worth 1 billion Euros is being used actually.

According to Demiralp, the European Commission has proposed to grant 500 million Euros to Turkey. Noting that the EU has been notified about the projects to be implemented within this framework, Demiralp said that the donation will gradually be raised.
  
IMPORTANCE OF 2007-2013 BUDGET

Demiralp said that discussions on EU's budget, covering the years between 2007 and 2013, continue, and noted that the EU will allocate (new) resources for Turkey from its enlargement budget.

“EU's 2007-2013 budget will aim to prepare Turkey for membership,” he emphasized.

Demiralp stated that EU budget, covering the years between 2014 and 2021, will be a budget envisaging Turkey's membership, and therefore some progress should be made till 2014.

Referring to toxic barrels unearthed in Tuzla, Istanbul, Demiralp said that this incident has emphasized the importance of adjustment of Turkish laws to EU norms.

He pointed out that Turkey should abide by the environmental norms of the EU, and noted, “not only the EU but also we know that there are problems related to the environment in Turkey. We will probably ask for an interim regulation from the EU.”
