Kurdish DTP Party questions whether chemical weapons used against PKK

Co-presidents of the Kurdish-dominated Democratic Society (DTP) Party, Aysel Tugluk and Ahmet Turk, have called on supporters to replace violent methods of protest with more democratic actions. The written statement by Tugluk and Turk also touched on the deaths of 14 PKK terrorists in an government-led operation in the southeastern city of Mus last week, saying "The violence that has taken place during and after the funerals of the 14 guerillas massacred in the fields outside Mus is the result of solutionless policies." The DTP statement also called for an end to the violence in Diyarbakir, Batman, Siirt, and Adana, and called for supporters to remain calm and level-headed during this period.
The statement from Tugluk and Turk also mentioned a rumour spreading the southeast that the 14 men killed in Mus had been killed with the use of chemical weapons: "Whether the funerals occuring these days are for guerillas or for soldiers and police, the fact is, they take away from our country when they occur....There are those who are saying that the 14 guerillas were killed via chemical weapons. The use of chemical weapons is anathema to the rules and principles of war."
"Umut Bookstore" reopens
The "Umut Bookstore," whose bombing had been at the start of the wave of violence that started to spread from Semdinli in the southeast last November, was reopened yesterday in Semdinli at a ceremony attended by DTP co-presidents Tugluk and Turk, as well as by Diyarbakir Mayor Osman Baydemir.
